The official primary university logo should be the first choice when using a logo to represent USask. When there is a need to be more specific in the use of a logo, there is a variation of the primary university logo—the secondary logo—that should be used. This approved system specifies a unit, college, department or centre while also maintaining the relationship with the university and its brand.
Frequently Asked Questions
The new secondary logo system replaces the old combined logo system. While more flexible, it still maintains the consistency that is so integral for a large, complex organization like the University of Saskatchewan.
Who’s it for?
The secondary logo is for use by any college, department, school, centre, etc. that belongs wholly to the university, is funded by the university and/or reports to the university.
What does it look like?
Where do I get the logos I need?
Secondary logos are available on the logo download page. If you don’t see the logo you need there, please contact your college or department’s communications person. If your college or department does not have a communications person, please contact the marketing team.
When do I have to stop using the old combined logo?
Logos are a significant piece of our brand and, as such, appear in many ways on many things. Where it is easy to transition, please stop using the old combined logo and switch to the new secondary logo system right away. However, we will still prioritize resourcefulness over an immediate transition. For example, if you have pre-printed stationery with the old combined logo on it, please use that up before you order a new supply with the new logo system.
Other examples of things that may take time to change are physical signage or banners and other promotional material. Although we would like to work toward consistency as soon as possible, we do recognize that it will be a phased-in approach.
Why is there a new secondary logo system?
Based on feedback from people across campus, we wanted to create a new logo system that would work better for the university. The new system allows for a lot more flexibility and a wider use across campus. For example, a department within a college wouldn’t have been able to include their department name previously—they would have only been able to use the college’s combined logo. Now a department can use the new secondary logo system that still indicates the college but also highlights the name of the department.
Because this system allows for more consistent branding but also more customization, it should eliminate or minimize the use of improper logos that have proliferated across campus in the past.
How do I use it?
Continue to use the official University of Saskatchewan logo on any piece that doesn’t require the inclusion of a specific college, unit or department.
Use the secondary logo on any piece that belongs to a specific entity, or where it is important to highlight a number of specific entities. An example of this might be an event that is sponsored by more than one department. In that instance, it would look like this:
